Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Helen and I’m a piano and Alexander Technique teacher based in North Finchley, London. I have been teaching for over 40 years and I am able to use this experience to create individually tailored learning programmes for each student.

Helen Kearns

I currently teach the Alexander Technique at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and the piano and Alexander Technique at Mill Hill School, as well as having a thriving private practice.

Piano
For my piano students, I aim to facilitate their independence of learning and love of music. One of my main objectives is to enable my students to play any type of music with understanding, good technique, musicianship and enjoyment. As a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique I am also very aware of ensuring students can play at all levels in a pain-free, coordinated and mindful way.

Alexander Technique
AT Word CloudLessons in the Alexander Technique can provide students of any age and occupation with a powerful tool for personal development. It has the potential to help you optimise your performance, cope with stress and physical problems, and bring about a more balanced, happy and healthy life. If you are new to the Technique you can follow these links to discover what it is and how it works.

In my role as an educator, I endeavour to introduce the Alexander Technique to as wide an audience as possible, but my main focus is bringing the work and its amazing benefits to students within the education system. I have been invited to give introductory Alexander Technique workshops to staff and students at schools and summer schools across the UK, including the National Youth Training Choir of Great Britain. I have also taught the technique at a number of other educational institutions including the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music, and the Senior Department of the Royal College of Music.

I am passionate about teaching and whether learning the piano or studying the Alexander Technique, I aim to work with each student to achieve their goals in the manner that is most appropriate for them.

I am a fully accredited and insured member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) and adhere to their Code of Practice. I am a Fellow of the Independent Society of Musiciansfism (FISM) who also provide full public liability insurance. I have a DBS Enhanced Disclosure Certificate for working with children.
